Air-chased Copper Wall Art on Wood

Well… it is just copper on a piece of pallet wood but I have called it Plank of Knotted Timber because that’s what someone said on my Facebook page when I shared a work in progress photo 🙂

Air Chased Copper Wall Art

Another comment was “love the texture you achieve, it reminds me of bark

It does look a bit like wood doesn’t it? It isn’t. This is a piece of air-chased copper. I have used this style of texturing on various pieces of jewellery – cuffs, pendants, rings and earrings but have not made many decorative pieces. The ‘Lamayuru’ tray and ‘Angst’ are the two sculptures I can think of.

I crafted Plank of Knotted Timber copper wall art using salvaged copper from an old copper tank. Texturing techniques including Air-Chasing & Fold Forming methods have been used to create interesting textures and patterns on sheet copper. The making process involved lengthy appointments with hammers and daps & a lot of annealing to soften the copper between hammering. And I really enjoyed making it!
I have given the copper a liver of sulphur patina to give it an ageless, timeless look and that really does make it look even more like bark. And of course finding a lovely piece of pallet wood with bark on it just made the whole picture come together exactly as I wanted it to.

This Air-Chased copper piece has been mounted on a piece of recycled pallet wood by my husband Dave who works with wood, wire and rocks. Some of his work is listed in my online shop here.

Plank of Knotted Timber Wall Mountable Copper Art from my Waste Not Want Not series using Metal salvaged from an old copper tank.

Size: 18.5 x 14 cm.

This wall mountable picture has a string at the back. If you prefer you can display it using a small plate holder or stand. This would work well for displaying on the mantelpiece or window-sill.
