Somewhere near Stamford 02 is my attempt to capture the fields, hedgerows and scenes we come across during walks with our dogs.
We walk our dogs Taj and Manali in fields near Stamford, the town where I live.
The “Somewhere near Stamford” series captures my impressions of these colours and scenes using copper sheet, enamel powder and glass beads.
This scene on copper has been mounted on a piece of recycled pallet wood by my husband Dave.
Size: 14 x 14 cm square. The tile is 10 cm x 10 cm
This wall mountable picture has a string at the back. If you prefer you can display it using a small plate holder or stand. This would work well for displaying on the mantelpiece or window-sill.
Update April 2021
All part of the continued learning processโฆ
Originally this tile was mounted on a simple piece of polished pallet wood.
Since first completing this project both Dave and I have learnt a lot more about enamelling and wood work.
I re-fired the tile in my kiln with a few more additions.
Dave learnt all about Shou Sugi Ban, an ancient Japanese method of preserving wood during the first Covid 19 Lockdown in 2020.
The pallet wood mount has been made using this technique. The wood is burnt using a blow torch. I dyed it using a black water based dye because I think the black background makes the colours really stand out.
Dave works with wood, wire and rocks. Some of his work is listed in my online shop here.
Enamelled Copper Doodles inspired by the fields & hedgerows we see during โWsโ with Mr Taj & Miss Manali.
I am really having a lot of fun with enamel. My new enamelling kiln has added a whole new dimension to my work.
